group%20amaz.JPG (249x142 -- 12081 bytes)The mighty Amazon River basin is a world of mystery and beauty waiting to be explored.  The Amazon’s ecosystem is rich beyond compare with such variety of wildlife, flora and fauna, that scientists are unable to classify it all.  The lush rainforests are virtually the world’s largest living botanical garden.

This is our second Amazon trip but even more special as we base ourselves at Explorama Lodges.  TheyIMG_0855.JPG (162x123 -- 7712 bytes)’ve provided jungle experiences for 40 years and May is the best time to visit.  This is an all inclusive vacation with open hearth cooked meals and our own professional naturalist guides throughout.  There are no roads.  Each day and night we will discover the regions diversity on boat tours.  Awalks_small.JPG (100x75 -- 2746 bytes)nd here lies the unrivaled opportunity for walking the World’s Longest Canopy Walk!   At 115 feet high for 1/3rd of a mile, you’ll be immersed in a tree top world.  Two of my friends just returned to say “it’s amazing.”
We fly from Miami to Lima Peru then over the Andes to Iquitos.  Two nights are spent at the rustic but quaint Explorama Lodge with palm thatched huts and covered walkways.  Two resident Shamans will guide us in the Ethnobotanical area to learn about the mix of religion and medicine.  Here we’ll deliver much need medical supplies to a local village clinic.  There will be early jungle walks for exotic birding and night hikes for phosphorescent fungus glowing all around you.

Blow gun lesson- Yagua Indians

schll.JPG (187x142 -- 0 bytes) . By rapid river launches, it’s off to Ceiba Tops for 3 glorious nights at a “resort” in the Amazon with amenities to pamper you.  Air conditioned rooms, elaborate gardens, the hammock house, bar and a fun Jungle Slide into the swimming pool.  We will visit the elusive Yagua Indians, one of the last remaining river tribes who have only sporadic contact with society.  (Right out of Neo Geo, these are the ones that use the poison from frogs in their blow guns.)  snakepull.JPG (116x151 -- 96733 bytes)

Our School Supplies

What else to do?  River quests for Pink Dolphins.  Fish for piranha to fry for dinner (they’re delicious.)  Visit Monkey Island where 5 tame species roam freely.  Evening canoe trips by flash light to view nocturnal life. Photograph otters, sloths,

macaws, parrots, perhaps an anaconda, a jaguar and more.  Deliver school supplies to native children.  Sip sugarcane rums and dance to live music into the night.

The Pink Dolphin

On day 7, we fly back to Lima to explore the city by a sightseeing tour and overnight in a first class hotel.  Some places are memorable for things to do and some for things to see, but some places have special magic of haunting the memory forever after.  This is one journey of a lifetime.

(If you can gather any basic school or medical supplies to add to our delivery.  Even simple things like pencils, band aids and peroxide will be appreciated.)
