Each year elaborate Christmas markets spring to life in Europe and since the 17th century, Germany does them best.  “YULE” have an awesome time on this fun trip.  It’s a joyous occasion for weary villagers.  The air is fragranced with gingerbread, the streets lit with thousands of lights and music surrounds you with open air concerts and children’s choirs.

Wurststand.jpg (157x104 -- 14233 bytes)Christmas is a magical time in this land of Heidi, Goethe, the Black Forest and Rhine.  There are sleigh rides, majestic alps and gothic cathedrals.  Sample the regional beers and festive foods like baked apples, roasted almonds, fruit breads, snow ball dough, chocolate waffles, potato pancakes, grilled sausages, ciders and mulled wines.  Shop the craft booths that are overflowing with holiday foods, tree ornaments, candles, toys, art, unique gifts and omnipresent nutcrackers.  Each market town is distinct with its own handmade products.

It begins in fabulous Munich, heart of Bavaria.  We ride horse drawn carriages up to Nueschwanstein Castle.  This is the fairytale fantasy creation of Mad King Ludwig with astonishing interior craftsmanship set in the alps.  Tour the castle and city with Glockenspiel Clock Square and markets as old as its breweries. Enjoy  a welcome dinner in a great Bavarian

Beer Cellar.  We’ll tour Nuremberg which attracts 2 million visitors annually for Germany’s most renowned “Christ Child Market” since 1628.  Witness daily pageantry and live nativity scenes.  Coach to Rodental to tour the Hummel Factory of fine porcelain figurines.  Then to Rothenberg where Christmas is celebrated year round.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber: Medieval Magic

It’s like stepping into a time warp with medieval architecture so impressive it’s almost Disney-like.  See the Christmas Museum and tour a Candy Factory with all the endless goodies you can taste.  On to Heidelberg, my favorite town with spectacular scenery.  Tour the city and its famous castle.  It ends in the world class city of Frankfurt.

Visit eight towns and villages set in a storybook land.  Absorb the culture and history in our perfect small group setting.  Make this your winter of alpine delights.  Whatever your faith, become a child again and experience the real spirit of a holiday season you’ll never forget.
